Group Discussion: Creating Inclusive Temple Environments for Diverse Sanghas: The wisdom of the Dharma and everyday practice of Shin Buddhism are particularly relevant to the suffering and introspection happening across the US today. How can we intentionally create inclusive spaces at our temples where all who walk through our doors immediately feel that they are in an environment where their whole selves are recognized and welcomed? This will be an interactive facilitated discussion aimed at generating actionable ideas for our temples to consider implementing.

Joint Dharma School Class: Expressions of Gratitude Presentation & Eastern District Service Project: Dharma School students are encouraged to participate in this joint class across our Eastern sanghas. We will do activities focused on the conference theme, “Expressions of Gratitude,” discuss a joint dana community service project, and use photos to virtually “visit” the Eastern temples.

Joint Sunday Service: Join us for our first virtual EBL conference service. Temple ministers, representatives, and musicians will all be featured in this special service, and we welcome guest speaker Rev. Kaitlyn Mascher-Mace, who will provide the Dharma message.

Crossing Over to Shin Buddhism Seminar: Many of our Sangha members and visitors to our temples did not grow up in the Shin Buddhist tradition. What is the spiritual, emotional, and psychological experience like for those who “cross over” to Shin Buddhism? All are welcome to join this conversation-based discussion, whether you are one who “crossed over,” a “heritage” member who grew up as a Shin Buddhist, or someone still considering whether Shin Buddhism is your path.

Temple Planting Event: Each of the EBL conference participating temples and sanghas will use a local planting to express our gratitude for the Earth and for the countless causes and conditions that support our daily existence. We invite you to join this event with a bloom, herb, tree, or other planting of your choice! Use #expressionsofgratitude to share your contribution.
